Two requirements catch Indian applicants out more than any other part of the German visa process. The first is the APS certificate (Akademische Prüfstelle) — a mandatory academic document verification for every Indian student applying for a German study visa, in place since October 2022. It checks your transcripts and certificates directly with your schools and universities before the German mission will accept your visa file. Budget 4–8 weeks for APS processing and start it as early as possible.
The second is the blocked account (Sperrkonto) — proof you can support yourself without working. You deposit €11,904 into a locked German bank account before your visa interview; once you arrive, the bank releases it to you in monthly instalments of about €992. Deposit less than the full amount, or open the account with the wrong provider, and the visa office will reject the file on funds grounds alone.
Both steps need to be done correctly and in the right order — APS first, since your university offer and blocked account both depend on it being underway or complete. We sequence this for every client rather than letting it become a last-minute scramble before your visa slot.
